The Berghotel Mummelsee on the misty lakeshore

Where to Stay near the Mummelsee

Stay the night and the lake is yours at sunrise. Here is where to sleep.

Most people see the Mummelsee around midday, from a busy car park. Staying one night nearby changes that: the lake in the quiet of the evening, again at dawn, and the whole High Road to explore in between.

There are three sensible bases. On the High Road itself — the hotel directly on the lake or a wellness hotel along the ridge. In the valley below — the wine villages of Sasbachwalden and Kappelrodeck and the town of Achern, with rail links and easy access to Strasbourg. Or Baden-Baden, 40 minutes away, with the widest choice, the thermal spas and the best restaurants.

We have not listed nightly prices: rates change constantly with the season and demand. Every card links to Trip.com for live prices and availability.

  • Travelling by train? Achern and Baden-Baden both have stations and buses up to the High Road.

Booking tips

  • Hotels on the High Road are few. For summer weekends, snowy winter weekends and the Christmas-market season, book well ahead.
  • Ask whether your hotel issues the KONUS guest card — it gives free use of buses and regional trains in much of the Black Forest.
  • Many Black Forest hotels charge a small local tourist tax (Kurtaxe) per night on top of the room rate.
  • If you are driving up in winter, check whether the hotel has covered parking and make sure your car has winter tyres.

Once your bed is sorted, pick the experience: our ranked tour comparison covers the day trips and guided walks worth adding.
